Editing, statistical support, and coaching are permitted under Australian university policy. Ghostwriting is not. Here is where the line sits and how to stay on the right side of it.
Australian universities permit professional editing, statistical consulting, and structural coaching on a thesis, provided the intellectual contribution remains yours and the assistance is disclosed where the policy requires it. Ghostwriting is illegal under the *Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency Act 2011* (Cth) as amended in 2020. The practical test is whether you could defend every argument in an examination viva.
Since the 2020 amendments, providing or advertising academic cheating services to Australian students is a criminal offence carrying penalties of up to two years' imprisonment. TEQSA blocks offending sites. That legislation targets ghostwriting and contract cheating, not editing.
Editing has always been a recognised part of scholarly publishing. The relevant reference point is the *Australian Standards for Editing Practice* and the guidelines for editing research theses adopted by most Australian universities, which permit intervention at the level of language, clarity, and consistency, and prohibit intervention at the level of substance.
Most Australian universities require an acknowledgement when a thesis has been professionally edited: the editor's name, and a statement that the editing was limited to language and formatting. Some require the editor's qualifications. Check your graduate research handbook and add the statement to your acknowledgements page. Disclosure protects you; silence is what creates the integrity risk.
Before accepting any assistance, ask whether you could sit in front of two examiners and explain the choice, the evidence, and the limitation without notes. If yes, the help strengthened work that is genuinely yours. If no, the help crossed the line regardless of how it was labelled.
If you want help that stays inside those boundaries, our [thesis help Australia](/thesis-help-australia) service and [dissertation editing](/dissertation-editing-services) service both operate to the Australian Standards for Editing Practice, and our [statistical analysis support](/statistics-assignment-help) team documents every step of the analysis so you can explain it yourself.
