Numeric systems (Vancouver, IEEE) replace the bracketed author with a number in order of first appearance, and that number stays attached to the source for the rest of the document. Renumber only with your reference manager, never by hand.
AGLC4 uses footnotes rather than in-text citations, with pinpoint page or paragraph references, and applies a short-title form for subsequent references to the same source.
